As reported by Reuters effective November 2011, new FCC regulations are expected to take effect. The FCC regulations would prohibit internet service providers from cutting internet transmissions of large file downloads and media streaming. But the ISP will still be able to control the network? It is yet unclear as to what specifically will be allowed but this is a positive move for consumer rights.
This undoubtedly will result in another round of court battles and appeals. ISPs are very upset by the prospect that they will be unable to completely control the delivery of content. Its understandable, as the increase in streaming and other technologies does tend to drain ISP resources. However, instead of spending millions in legal fees to appeal maybe ISPs should invest in their infrastructure so the demands for streaming and large file downloads won’t drain their resources.
