(<a href=\"http:\/\/purplelawfirm.com\/law-and-you-chattanooga\/2010\/07\/30\/information-is-not-legal-advice\/\">review<\/a>) But, generally speaking, child support can not be waived, by agreement or otherwise.\u00a0 In Tennessee as well as other states <strong>child support is determined by law<\/strong>.\u00a0 The <strong>Tennessee Child Support Guidelines<\/strong> must be followed by the Court.\u00a0 The Court is given the ability to deviate (or vary) from the guidelines. \u00a0But, \u00a0this is rarely done. \u00a0Certainly not to the extent of &#8220;waiving&#8221; \u00a0support.\u00a0 The court must specifically find that a deviation or <strong>variance from the Child Support Guidelines<\/strong> is proper. \u00a0And that such deviation will still provide <strong>adequate support for the child<\/strong> or children.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">In Limited Cases the Court May Deviate From the Child Support Guidelines<\/h3>\n<p><strong>A case in point: <\/strong>Attorney Jim Purple, represented a client (the mother) in a <strong>divorce action<\/strong>.\u00a0 The mother had a relatively low income in comparison to the father.
