However, there are some limitations to support for adult disabled children.<\/p>\n<h2>The Tennessee Court of Appeals recently reinforced the statutory limitations for<strong> <a title=\"Tennessee Child Support: How is it calculated?\" href=\"https:\/\/purplelawfirm.com\/law-and-you-chattanooga\/2010\/08\/31\/tennessee-child-support-how-is-it-calculated\/\">awards of child support<\/a><\/strong> for an adult disabled child.<\/h2>\n<p>In the case of <a title=\"Child Support award for adult disabled child reveresed by Court of Appeals \" href=\"http:\/\/www.tsc.state.tn.us\/sites\/default\/files\/shawedithnellallenopn.pdf\">Edith Nell Allen Shaw v. Jerry Emerson Shaw<\/a>.\u00a0 In the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Shaw<\/span> case the mother <strong>filed for divorce<\/strong> after the couple&#8217;s disabled child turned 18 years old.\u00a0 The trial court granted the divorce and <strong>ordered the Father to pay child support for the adult disabled child<\/strong> of the parties.\u00a0 About four years after the divorce was granted the mother filed a petition to modify child support, which was granted by the trial court.\u00a0 The father then appealed the order modifying and continuing support for their severely disabled child on the grounds that he child was an adult. The Court of Appeals agreed with the father and held that the <strong>divorce court lacked jurisdiction to order child support<\/strong> as a part of the divorce as the <strong>child was over eighteen<\/strong> at the time the complaint for divorce was filed.<\/p>\n<p>[important]<strong>Family law<\/strong> and <strong>domestic relations<\/strong> issues can be very complex, as well as very emotionally overwhelming, choose your <a title=\"Experienced family law divorce attorneys in Chattanooga TN\" href=\"http:\/\/purplelawfirm.com\">attorney<\/a> wisely.
